What’s Your Mind-Body Connection?

mind body connection

Your body and mind are connected in more ways than you can imagine. Don’t think for a minute that your emotions don’t have an effect on your health.

How do you feel when you are upset, depressed or crying? Do you feel the effects on your sinuses, eyes and even appetite. “I’m too upset to eat”.

Do you think your blood pressure is rising? You have heard people say “my blood is boiling”, right?

Did you know that stress causes free radical damage? Meaning that when you have a high stress lifestyle, your nutritional needs increase. For instance, more free radicals means the necessity for more antioxidants, than in a relaxed state.

When you feel dis”ease” you create disease.

I have known many individuals with auto-immune disorders, including my mom and close family friends. Many of them have told me that symptoms began and the disease state manifested during a time of extreme emotional unrest, due to major life changes, death in the family, etc.health

Depression is one of the worst for your health. It is the bottom of the emotional scale. It is better to be mad than depressed because you are moving towards joy, if you will. I especially believe that long term sadness is constant stress on your body systems. High stress in the mind always becomes a body in distress.

It is OK to feel sad when a loved one passes on. But it is not OK for your body to be sad for a long period of time. Your loved one would not want you to be in such a dire emotional state. It will not change anything, except your health.

Your health is a relationship between you and your body. There is no great life without good health. If you understand this connection, then you understand that joy is of utmost importance, for your own personal wellbeing.

I know when my children giggle it brings them and anyone listening to them great joy. Happiness makes everyone feel wonderful. So if I am feeling anxiety or stress, I search for anything that will bring a smile to my face or laughter to my children. I cannot stay in a bad mood with their blissful giggles within earshot.

Don’t just look for happiness, expect it, seek it out.

You will certainly find what you are looking for. Whether it is a dwelling on the negative past and the inevitable sadness, or a reason to live abundantly blissful.

I hope it is the latter!

Hugs and a happy body,

Laura
